Additional Paternity Leave – Update

In April 2011 the Government brought in Additional Paternity Leave (APL) so that fathers could have six months’ extra leave to look after their new-born child. Under the new law, parents are entitled to share time off work during their baby’s first year. Currently, if the mother has taken the first 20 weeks off work, the father can take up to 26 weeks APL provided the mother has returned to work.
