Enhanced Consumer Measures Under the New Consumer Rights Act

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA) enacted on 26th March sets out a framework for streamlining UK consumer protections for goods, services, digital content and unfair contract terms. In the interest of providing a modernised landscape for the complex area of consumer rights the new category of digital content has been added and wider powers of enforcement granted to Trading Standards Officers.

So, what can we expect from the Tory Government in employment law reforms over this next parliament? Well, if manifesto promises are to be believed, we should see a lighter touch to regulation of employers, and more support for businesses. Key words used are “fairness”, “flexibility” and “hard working”, not to mention the ubiquitous “long-term economic plan”.

Gelbergs sponsors the Vox Holloway Community Choir in London premiere of Ona's Flood

We are proud to have sponsored the Vox Holloway community choir’s performance of Ona’s Flood on Sunday 29th March 2015 at St Luke’s Church in West Holloway.  The London premiere of Harvey Brough’s ensemble tells the tale of a young girl whose premonitions of a man-made flood reflect contemporary concerns about climate change. The haunting score was written as a companion piece to Benjamin Britten’s Noye’s Fludde.

Fit for Work - Sickness Absence Service

The new state-funded ‘Fit for Work’ scheme is designed to prevent sickness absence, to help ill employees return to the workplace and to support those in work with health conditions.

There will be two facets to this scheme:

  • Free, expert and impartial work-related health advice via a website or telephone line for employers, employees and GPs to help individuals stay in or return to work; and
